PBA Season 46 Governors' Cup
Weathering a late Meralco surge, Barangay Ginebra made it two in a row and seized the upper hand in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals with a 115-110 Easter Sunday triumph before an 18,251-strong crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings nearly blew a 14-point spread on a fourth-quarter romp by Tony Bishop but regained composure and control in time to get ahead, 3-2, in the race-to-four title dispute.
With good ball rotation and torrid shooting, the Kings breached the century mark for the first time in the series and moved on the threshold of the crown which they can wrap up in Game 6 Wednesday also at the Big Dome.
A winner-take-all Game 7, if necessary, will be Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“To close out a series is very tough. But we’ll not look back, nor we will look forward. We’ll focus on the game at hand Wednesday. Pag nandyan ang ‘Sixth Man’ namin (the crowd), kaya yan,” said Ginebra do-it-all guard Scottie Thompson.
If ever, the Kings would capture a fourth crown in the last five editions of the Governors’ Cup.
The Kings closed in on a title repeat on big games by starters Thompson, Justin Brownlee, Arvin Tolentino, Christian Standhardinger and LA Tenorio.
