Brgy. Ginebra vs Converge | PBA Season 47 Governors' Cup
Whatever’s the issue with Converge and its import Jamaal Franklin — if there’s any, Barangay Ginebra just went about its business.
The Gin Kings continued to defy adversity, going three-of-three in five nights with a crippled lineup as they smothered the FiberXers, 120-101, to move up to joint second with the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA Governors’ Cup elims at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig Sunday.
Jamie Malonzo poured in 29 points while Justin Brownlee and Christian Standhardinger fired 28 apiece, leading the Ginebra rampage against a Converge side with an import who was missing in action.
Among the most prolific imports in the tourney, Franklin was good for just four points on measly five field-goal attempts in this contest.
The Kings took care of business and, with their fourth straight win overall, drew even with the second-running Beermen at 7-2, both with solid chances at making the Top 4 and gaining a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals.
The FiberXers, meanwhile, crashed out of the race for the Top 4 with their third straight defeat and a 6-5 closing mark in the elims.
“We talked about how important this game is. And coach Tim (Cone) just told us to keep tracking,” said Malonzo, amazing with his big game though playing a fourth game in seven nights, counting his game with Gilas against Jordan on Monday.
