WATCH: Jason Perkins and Justin Chua taunt!

Brgy. Ginebra exhibited its “Never Say Die” mantra Wednesday night and pulled off a 94-87 come-from-behind win over the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

After falling behind by 19 points in the first quarter, the defending champs slowly clawed their way back with precarious defense, outrageous rebounding and on point scoring to finally take the lead anew in the fourth quarter en route to a close, hard fought win.

The Tim Cone – mentored squad banked on the heavy scoring outputs of Stanley Pringle, LA Tenorio and Christian Standhardinger to preserve their fourth win in nine games and improve their chances of making it in the next round. Pringle topscored with 31 markers, on top of 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Tenorio was also steady after finishing with 23 points and 5 assists while Standhardinger contributed 21 points.

It was a very shaky start by Brgy. Ginebra when they find themselves behind, no thanks to a great offensive outburst by Phoenix in the first quarter. But the tide started to calm down in the middle quarters as both teams traded run after run with the Fuel Masters just ahead by seven points entering the final period. The fourth quarter was a different story when Tenorio, Pringle, Aljon Mariano and Scottie Thompson joined forces to overtake Phoenix and steal the game.

The loss put Phoenix in 9th spot at 4-6 and is now teetering on the brink of missing the playoffs. Jason Perkins topscored for the Fuel Masters with 30 points in a losing cause.

Vic Manuel of Phoenix was scoreless in limited minutes while Japhet Aguilar of Brgy. Ginebra missed the game due to a sprained MCL.
