WATCH: Jeremiah Gray Highlights [Brgy. Ginebra vs NLEX | Feb. 8, 2023]

PBA Season 47 Governors' Cup

Jeremiah Gray played his best game in a Brgy. Ginebra uniform and powered the Gin Kings past erstwhile unbeaten NLEX, 114-111, Wednesday night in the PBA Season 47 Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The 26-year old Gray, who was acquired by the crowd darlings in May of 2022 from Terrafirma in exchange for Brian Enriquez and Javi Gomez de Liano, drained three clutch triples in the Gin Kings’ 13 to 3 closing run which completely erased the Road Warriors’ 12-point lead established early in the payoff period.

The Fil-Am rookie’s exploits overshadowed the impressive debut of NLEX import Wayne Selden Jr. who finished with 43 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in 45 minutes of play.

“Miah is having a coming-out party this conference. Last game, I thought he was brilliant, and tonight he was even more brilliant. So, he’s starting to show what he can do,” said Brgy. Ginebra head coach Tim Cone during the post-game presser.

“It was really pleasing to see Raymond go out there and do the things he does well. He rebounded well, he dove after loose balls, and he just stayed within himself and did his job,” he added in reference to the quality minutes provided by Aguilar due to the absence of Christian Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar due to injuries.

Justin Brownlee showed the way for the defending champions with 44 points on 16-of-29 shooting in 47 minutes of action. The naturalized Filipino added 16 boards and 6 dimes to his tally.

Gray finished with a career-best 19 points spiked by 5-of-7 shooting from downtown to go with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Reigning league MVP Scottie Thompson contributed a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards while Stanley Pringle scored 10. Aguilar and Jamie Malonzo chipped in 9 markers apiece.

The Gin Kings take a day off before plunging back into action on Friday, February 10, 5:45pm against the winless NorthPort Batang Pier at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
