WATCH: Jeremiah Gray Highlights [Brgy. Ginebra vs Rain or Shine | June 25, 2023]

PBA on Tour

Brgy. Ginebra escaped Rain or Shine, 108-107, Sunday night in the 2023 PBA on Tour thanks to two clutch baskets by Jayson David, including the game-winner.

The Gin Kings’ stunning triumph over the Elasto Painters at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City came down to David’s final four points.

With 28 seconds remaining, the Gin Kings were down 107-106 before David made a basket to bring them to within a point. With only four seconds remaining, David drove the length of the court for the game-winning layup after Andrei Caracut missed a jump shot.

The Elasto Painters’ Nick Demusis missed a potential game-winning jumper at the buzzer, and the Gin Kings completed their fightback from 10 points down to clinch their 3rd win in 6 outings.

It was the crowd darlings’ second consecutive preseason win despite playing with a severely depleted roster.

With 29 points and 4 three-pointers to go along with his 8 boards, Von Pessumal led the Gin Kings in scoring.

Pessumal claimed that despite missing key players like Christian Standhardinger and Scottie Thompson, the team’s “never say die” mentality remains on.

“We’re just trying to get the same culture coach Tim Cone built in the regular season,” said Pessumal. “Just because we’re not being used a lot in the season doesn’t mean we can’t carry the same spirit that Scottie brings to the game.”

Jeremiah Gray scored 19 points, including the 3-pointer that put the Kings within 104-107 with 1:39 to go before David came up with his heroics.
