Brgy. Ginebra played its third game in five and days and ended up extending two streaks, its own winning run and Converge’s losing skid.

The Gin Kings displayed their championship form all-throughout the match and routed the FiberXers by 19, 120-101, Sunday night in the closing stretch of the elimination round of the PBA Season 47 Governors’ Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Jamie Malonzo registered a new career-high of 29 points to lead the crowd darlings to their 4th straight win while dealing the Aldin Ayo-mentored squad their 3rd defeat in a row. The high-flying Fil-Am shot an impressive 10-of-15 from the field highlighted by 3-of-7 sniping from beyond the arc. He also contributed 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal in 35 minutes of action.

“It’s been really crazy for us. And the fact that these guys keep finding a way in reaching deep, it’s been amazing to watch,” said Brgy. Ginebra head coach Tim Cone during the post-game press conference.

“We were a little bit surprised that Franklin wasn’t as aggressive as he’s been in the past. That’s not our issue – our issue is to go out and win the basketball game. We’re just going to go out there and try to win,” he added.

Justin Brownlee and Christian Standhardinger both submitted 28-point double-doubles with the newly naturalized Filipino also churning in 10 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and 2 blocks. The 6-foot-8 Fil-German, meanwhile, also tallied 12 boards, 4 dimes and 3 steals.

Jeremiah Gray finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks while reigning league MVP Scottie Thompson chipped in 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Gin Kings’ next assignment is Terrafirma with the two sides scheduled to clash on Wednesday, March 8, 5:45pm at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
