Brgy. Ginebra def NorthPort, 95-88 [PBA S48 PH Cup | Apr. 14, 2024]

Ralph Cu delivered a standout performance on Sunday, leading Barangay Ginebra to a 95-88 victory over NorthPort in the PBA 48th Season Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Cu had a stellar game, coming close to a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists – all personal bests in his budding PBA career. His exceptional performance propelled Ginebra to their second consecutive win, improving their record to 5-3.

Cu, who was selected by Ginebra in the second round of the draft this season, made crucial plays in the clutch moments of the game. He sank a pivotal three-pointer with 2:56 remaining in the fourth quarter to break the deadlock at 85-85, igniting a 7-0 run that ultimately secured the win for Ginebra.

Christian Standhardinger also made significant contributions, finishing with a team-high 25 points and 17 rebounds.

Despite the victory, Ginebra faced a setback as Jamie Malonzo sustained an injury in the closing seconds of the game. Malonzo had to receive medical attention from the Ginebra staff on the court.

Maverick Ahanmisi added 13 points for Ginebra, while Arvin Tolentino led NorthPort with 19 points.

NorthPort, who led 53-43 at halftime, was unable to maintain their lead as Ginebra outscored them 30-17 in the third quarter.

The win marked Ginebra’s 14th consecutive victory over NorthPort, who dropped to a 5-2 record. Standhardinger, continuing his strong performance after being benched in their previous game, played a pivotal role in securing the win for Barangay Ginebra.
